What to do in Buenos Aires? Plan your days in the Argentine capital

Buenos Aires is the definition of a city, in every sense of the word. The capital of Argentina perfectly blends culture, gastronomy, sport, architecture… Without a doubt, one of those cities that you have to visit at least once in your life.

A must-see during your visit to Buenos Aires is Palermo, a neighborhood where you will find both cultural and gastronomic attractions. Here you will find some of the best museums in the city and also nice restaurants where you can try delicious Argentine food. Also, you may not know it, but Buenos Aires is a city full of craft breweries and Palermo is the ideal place to try this drink.

Another of the places that must be on your list when planning what to do in Buenos Aires is San Telmo, one of the oldest and most traditional neighborhoods in the city, and you can learn more about its history if you take this free tour. We recommend going to its market at lunchtime. At El Hornero de San Telmo you will find one of the best empanadas in the city. If you can visit this place on a Sunday, you will also experience the atmosphere on Defensa Street, especially in Plaza Dorrego, where its classic weekly fair is held.

Many of the iconic places in the city of Buenos Aires can be found in the centre, such as the Teatro Colón, the El Ateneo Grand Splendid bookstore, the Barolo palace and the Plaza de Mayo, where, if you are lucky, you will find the incredible grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo, who still go out every Thursday at half past three in the afternoon to do their protest walk. This is also a good place to do a free walking tour, as it is an area with a lot of history, as well as to see a tango show.

Of course, you can't talk about Buenos Aires without mentioning the king of sports, soccer. In Argentina, soccer is a way of life. The capital is home to the two most important teams in the country, Boca Junior and River Plate. While the former has its stadium in the La Boca neighbourhood (another of Buenos Aires' tourist spots), the latter is in Belgrano. If you want to visit both, it's best to take a joint soccer tour, as they are located far from each other. In addition, for the more nostalgic people, there is also a Maradona tour, which visits places such as Diego's first home.

If you have extra days in Buenos Aires, you can always use them to visit tourist attractions outside the city: take a catamaran ride through the Tigre Delta, take a trip to Martín García Island or even cross the border to Uruguay with a full day in Colonia del Sacramento.
