What to do in Cancun and its surroundings?

A vacation in Cancun never disappoints. In addition to its famous beaches, this well-known destination is the starting point for many other tourist spots in Mexico, so if you are thinking of traveling to Cancun, take the opportunity to discover other places to visit in its surroundings.

We start with the islands that are close to Cancun and where you will find paradisiacal beaches, those with crystal-clear waters and white sand. We highlight three: Isla Mujeres, the closest, Cozumel, located further south, and Holbox, in the north of the Yucatan peninsula.

We continue with the adventure parks that are so characteristic of Cancun. Although many of them have their own accommodation, it is not necessary for you to stay there to be able to have access to them. There are one-day tickets with which you can visit them and enjoy a few hours of fun with family or friends. There are several: Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor, Xoximilco, Xenses, Xavage… Our advice is that you carefully analyze what each of them includes and choose which one you want to visit, depending on the type of trip you are going to take and with whom.

To make the most of your visit to the south of the Riviera Maya, you can plan a trip to Tulum, the archaeological remains of an ancient Mayan city on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. In this area, you will also see several cenotes, so don't forget to pack your swimsuit in your backpack and get ready to enter these curious bodies of water. Also, if you have the chance, when you go from Cancun to Tulum, make a stop at Cobá, the Mayan city with the highest pyramid on the Yucatan Peninsula.

But when it comes to Mayan ruins, it is impossible not to mention their masterpiece, Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. The nearest city is Valladolid, but if you don't have much time, there are organized tours in Cancun for a day trip to this historic destination.

And what about the rest of your free time? Simple: sunbathing, enjoying the beach and some of the best cuisine in the world.
