We will begin from your accommodation in Hanga Roa, heading to Puna Pau, the quarry of red scoria where the pukao (topknots) that crowned the statues were carved. This site reveals an essential part of the moai creation process.
Next, we will visit Ahu Akivi, the first altar on the island to be scientifically restored in 1960. Its seven moai aligned with the rising sun stand out for being located inland. According to oral tradition, they represent the Seven Explorers sent by Hotu Matu’a before the colonization of the island.
We will finish at the Tahai Village, north of Hanga Roa, one of the most significant ceremonial complexes of Rapa Nui.
We will return to your accommodation after discovering the legacy of the Ahu Akivi and the 7 Explorers, timeless symbols of Rapa Nui culture.
