What to bring
Discover the Imperial City on this Full Day Petrópolis tour from Rio de Janeiro, a journey that combines history, architecture, and mountain landscapes.
Depart from Rio toward the mountain region of the state. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of Serra dos Órgãos National Park, known for its dramatic rock formations and lush vegetation.
Before arriving in Petrópolis, you will pass by the Quitandinha Palace, an iconic building that operated as a luxury hotel and casino in the 1940s and remains one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks.
Once in the city, you will visit the Cathedral of Saint Peter of Alcântara, where the remains of Emperor Dom Pedro II, founder of Petrópolis and the last emperor of Brazil, are buried. You will then explore the Imperial Museum, the former summer palace of the imperial family, which houses an impressive collection of historical objects, furniture, and documents from the imperial era.
During the city tour, you will also see the Crystal Palace, an elegant glass pavilion inspired by European glass palaces, and the House of Santos Dumont (optional visit), the former residence of the famous Brazilian aviation pioneer.
Afterward, enjoy free time to have lunch, stroll along Rua Teresa, known for its fashion shops, or visit the Bohemia Brewery, where you can learn about the production process of one of Brazil’s most traditional beers. Finally, you will begin the return trip to Rio de Janeiro, where the activity ends.
